Originally the Ford Cargo was designed by Ford of Britain, which entered its production in 1981 that was exclusively available only in Europe. By 1986 it was sold in the US market as the successor for the longest running C-Class utility trucks. This was also the successor for the Ford Transcontinental in Europe.
After Ford’s commercial vehicle division was acquired by Iveco in 1986 it was known as Iveco Ford by 1991 then over its following iteration it was completely re-badge and known as the Iveco Eurocargo.
European Cargo
The design for the Ford Cargo has evolved over the years even after Iveco have bought the commercial vehicle division. The styling and aesthetics is very much European inspired than American as this casting is based from the 2012 edition.
Its single cab over engine appearance is under scaled for the 1:64 mainline, but the details can’t be ignored that it can tow trailers for its scale. This is part of the ‘New Models’ for 2015 and Matchbox has produced a second color in Metallic Blue.
Super Cargo King
The Ford Cargo is an interesting casting rarely produced similar freightliners for the mainline that is dominated by 1:64 cars and utility vehicles. If you park it beside a standard Matchbox car it would be off-scale. If the brand had not discontinued its large scale line for larger trucks this one would definitely fit in.
In a perfect world where Matchbox would still be produced by Lesney England this could have been available for the Super Kings mainline that would compliment the smaller 1:64 cars or a large scale series that Mattel produced from 2013. It would be one of the casting that collectors would pick up. Unfortunately, this was only available for 2015 and 2016, but never available for 2017.
Overall the Ford Cargo is a casting deserved to be produced in its proper scale. Its unattractive appearance for the mainline doesn’t get enough attention with just a single cab without its trailer that can be better suited for hauling its actual cargo.
“2013 Ford Cargo” is numbered 3 0f 120 die-cast cars released for Matchbox in 2015 and it was acquired at Toys R' US in Greenbelt 5 for PHP 119.75 in Philippine Pesos(Retailed in Australia for $3.00 AUD). Matchbox is distributed and sold in the Philippines by Richprime Global Inc!
