12.30.2011 – The Philippines is the only country that celebrates the coming of the New Year via fireworks and loud festivities. Previously we featured that workers in Time Square in New York is already setting up and installing the new Waterford Crystals for the ball that will be dropped by midnight.

The Central Business District of Makati is like New York but the tradition to welcome the coming New Year was only established in welcoming the Millennium back in 1999.

But the celebration happens every other year and the last one was held when they welcomed the year 2009.

The gathering originally held at the corner of Ayala Avenue and Makati Avenue across Manila Peninsula and Makati Shangri-La Hotel. In 2004 they moved the celebration from the current venue to Paseo de Roxas corner Ayala Avenue near the Ninoy Aquino monument. But the venue reverted back to the original place when Makati celebrated the New Millenium.

Earlier we checked the closed section of Ayala Avenue from the corner of Makati Avenue up to the part where all traffic was diverted to take Paseo de Roxas as the alternate route heading to EDSA (former known as Highway 54).

We also tested the capabilities of the HTC Glacier’s (aka T-Mobile MyTouch 4G) 5MP built-in digital camera in capturing the preview of what’s about to go down this Saturday in celebrating the year 2012. Some of the images are blurry but clear enough for us to share you what to expect in celebrating the birth of the New Year.

Check out the photos that we captured witnessing the set up for the upcoming New Year celebration here in Makati City...

The event will start at 5:30PM onwards this Saturday with band performances and other entertainment acts happening plus light shows in welcoming the New Year 2012!
