12.06.2013 – Submersibles are small crafts designed to operate under water. There are different kinds of under water vehicles that is described by that term but technically they are also known as submarines. But what makes them different is that they are attached to surface vehicles that supply them oxygen and power.

The early submersibles have been exploring the deep sea and the first one was the Bathyscaphe Trieste was the first to reach the deepest part of the ocean, nearly 11 km (7 mi) below the surface, at the bottom of the Mariana Trench in 1960.

Matchbox 2013 released line of diecast vehicles includes the introduction of the Deep Diver. But this is not the first time Matchbox has produced a submersible vehicle as they have released a previous “Submersible” that has wheels underneath back in 1999. There was no definite information when was the last edition was released.

The “Submersible” last documented release was in 2007 as part of a five pack SpongeBob SquarePants theme. Matchbox 2013 line now has different series of vehicles that are now categorized and the Deep Diver is part of the MBX Explorer series.

Introducing the Deep Diver as the new submersible vehicle for the Matchbox for the 2013 series incorporates past and future concept of deep sea diving vehicle. This features a more realistic manned under water vehicle that has static not-articulated robotic arm and has a wide body shape compared to the previous version.

This Deep Diver is painted in yellow with side circular windows in aqua green translucent glass. It has the vehicles name stamped on both sides with black and orange stripe that matches the body color just right.

Besides having non-articulated robotic arms the rear propeller is also fixed. There are no movable parts in this vehicle and it stays true as the submersible vehicle without tires.

Just like the real submersibles this takes inspiration in the concept what the current ocean explorers’ use for their deep sea research. The ocean may be the final frontier on Earth that still being explored besides having humans focused to explore space and other planets.

The Deep Diver is an interesting piece of research vehicle produced by Matchbox under the MBX Explorer sub line for the 2013 series. The only downside is not having movable parts and not entirely made of diecast material.

The MBX Explorer Deep Diver is 101 of 120 from the 2013 Matchbox series which is retailed in the Philippines for PhP 99.75 pesos. Matchbox is distributed by Rich Prime and for LIKE Richwell Club on Facebook!
