The inspiration and appearance of Finn McMissle was taken from different cars possibly to avoid licensing since he does look like Sean Connery’s Aston Martin DB5 which appeared in Goldfingerfrom 1964 also made its appearance in the recent Bond film in 2012’s SkyFall starring Daniel Craig.
The design is based from several cars, the roofline and doors of the Volvo P1800 (possibly inspired by Roger Moore's ownership of one while filming The Saint TV espionage series in the early 1960s), the grill and fenders of the BMW 507, and some major elements of the car also resembles a 1970s Volkswagen Karmann Ghia. The look of the car has been slightly modified; Finn has a different grill that looks like a suave mustache, but like Bond, he does have plenty of gadgets. His small tailfins were inspired by a 1958 British sports car called the Peerless—one of the few British cars with fins.
Being a Brtish Super Spy car has its special gadgets since Finn McMissile is no ordinary car. There were several variations of the character featuring his gadgets from being armed with machine guns, grappling hooks and spy cameras has versions where he has the ability to fly or swim as seen in the opening scenes of Cars 2.
The packaging for the die cast collectible has slightly changed since the original Cars from 1996 and this is the standard version of Finn McMissile that only has a painted set of eyes instead of the more stylish “Moving Eyes” gimmick.
This version does not feature the other characters at the back but rather a checklist. The international version features only the image of the character that you have bought.
There where a lot of versions of Finn McMissle varying in sizes as well but for anyone who just doesn’t have the space and have been following Cars series up to Mater Tales this character adds to the growing community of die cast versions of the famed British Super Spy car.
Finn McMissile originally released in the cars 2 assortments in 2011 which was retailed for PhP 500.00 pesos. The Cars 2 die cast collectibles are being manufactured by Mattel.
But since Finn can no longer be found on selected retail store you can still acquire him at Hobbiestock Collectibles a specialty store that sells hard to find die cast cars and interesting finds.
