06.02.2011 - X-Men: First Class is the fifth film considered to be a prequel of the previous X-Men films. The movie is set in 1962 during the Cuban Missile Crisis, and focuses on the relationship between Charles Xavier and Magneto. This also tackles the origin of the group, the X-men and the Brotherhood of Mutants. The film had a red carpet screening at the SM Mall of Asia's cinema on June 2, 2011. The movie opens across the Philippines on June 3, 2011. For every X-Men fan who have read the comics in the past this is a refreshing take on the origins. This time its produced by the former director of X-Men and X-Men 2 Bryan Singer and currently directed by Matthew Vaughn.
The Beginning
Sometimes the origin films doesn't work or loose its way to everyone's viewing pleasure. For every geek who has read the comic book this one was grounded to the point the yellow spandex didn't bother at all.
The story was primarily set in 1962, which ties up to reality in such a way it gives you the idea how everything came to be.
Some sequence from Magneto's origin can be seen in glimpse of memory from the first X-Men film, which links this prequel directly. Though it gives us an idea that Bryan Singer is cleaning up the mess he left in Last Stand, since went off to direct Returns in 2006. Everyone was expecting something good about that last X-Men film, but he was away doing something for big blue.
Now that he's back as producer of the film that made him known it leaves something for us, that X-Men: First Class is just the beginning of a new trilogy for us to follow.
Something to hope for...
Finally, An X-Men flick that's worth watching for those who has not seen the first four films. Highly suggest to forget them as First Class is a good jumping point for any newbie who wants to see a different kind of super team unless you wait for the Avenger in 2012.
The verdict is x-marks the spot with a 4.5 rating, which gives the film some new life and we expect a sequel is in the works.
