11.05. 2018 – There have been a lot of biopic out there that pay tribute to real life people, but none of them compared to how Queen had started. They are indeed the band for the ages having founded in 1970 the story where it all began. But the focus of the narrative is Freddie Mercury the former front man.

To this day everyone who grew up in the 1970s and 1980s remember the band for they are on stage, but not what you expect behind the scenes. There are stories how Mercury is in real life but not as what you expect in this film.

There are contradictions and fictionalized details how it was written. There are controversies as some claimed. But at the end of the day everyone is entitled to their opinion how it really happened. Though the story in film is heavily light on the scenes on how Freddie Mercury was portrayed, but Rami Malek, Mr. Robot himself definitely was a spot on with his performance.

The cast was gracious in portraying the rest of the band, but the way it was presented was quite squeaky clean to merit a PG-13 rating rather than present itself what really is behind the stories that tabloids just blurt out leading to Mercury’s passing.

They say it is for what it is and with quite honestly things where done in good taste more like sterile for everyone to see more like a medley of its former glory than what really was true to those dark times where the band really struggled. Sometimes its better to show surface of its truths not the meat of its heart.

Bryan Singer has been known for blockbusters like X-Men films and Superman Rebirth to name a few, but a biopic that he left unfinished after his controversies almost left this movie unfinished. The production of this film has been in development for the past eight year and finally it here for the fans who savoured the beginning, middle, and the glory days ending to the biggest performance in Queen History that really put them in the map.

It was clear cut and fast not enough details to really give an insight replaced with quick pacing not entirely accurate with its history. Though, performance-wise what put this film in everyone’s collective consciousness was Rami Malek’s transformation from Farrokh Bulsara to Freddie Mercury before he hit the stage at Wembley for the historic Live Aid performance that was heavily present in the trailers.

This film is hard to pass up being a film that’s inspired from an idea of a very young Edgar Wright so many years ago. You’ll probably be thinking this is just some heist film, but for a certain degree after seeing the preview you’ll definitely putting together your own soundtrack.

“Bohemian Rhapsody” is already playing in cinemas in the Philippines since 31 October 2018 and Now Playing in Australia since 1 November 2018 from 20th Century Fox.
