01.19.2018 – There are interesting concepts that’s worthy of a second look, but Hot Wheels sometimes produce the ones that are a bit awkwardly out of this world that’s left in the toy shelves until they get sold for clearance.

But the Carbonator isn’t one of them as previous iteration can be interesting it’s due to the right color combination and interesting graphic. For 2017 this edition was included as part of the Holiday Racers!

The Carbonator should have been part of the Experimotors under that sub-theme for 2017, but its welcoming the New Year from its recent release. Of course the 2018 edition won’t be part of the Holiday Racers, but for those who collects this casting adding this to the ones that has been around since 2008 you’ll be happy to know you got enough bottle openers on wheels to use.

Though the bottle opener concept on wheels has been fairly interesting and fun nowadays bottles can be easily opened without the need of the Carbonator’s assistance unless you use the front bumper to open your tuna in a can.

Holiday Opener for 2017

The previous iterations have been interesting in its colors combinations ans graphic, but the Carbonator is becoming outdated with each release every year. It’s almost ten years since Alton Takeyasu the concept art and Manson Cheung translated the design that becomes the final appearance.

Here’s the description on what went on with the Carbonator in 2008:

Carbonator is a Hot Wheels casting based on a glass soda bottle on wheels with a large spoiler styled as a bottle opener. Designed by Alton Takeyasu, the Carbonator debuted in the 2008 New Models. Alton's original, working name for the casting was "Bottle Rocket" but the name was not available for use. After many suggested names, the team ended up on Carbonator. Manson Cheung translated the design to a digital file, and adjusted it for track-worthiness. He added cool elements such as a "pop top" detail on the chassis bottom. Fun fact: the spoiler can be used as a bottle opener and the front can be used as a can opener.

Overall the Carbonator needs a serious upgrade and for its bottle/can opener design on wheels it still holds up, but its physical use as a tool to open bottles is becoming a outdated, but did anyone tried using its as a can opener? Lately the color combinations are lacking maybe Hot Wheels should get license brands like Coca-Cola or its rival Pepsis to have its graphic made for this surely A LOT of soda drinkers and recently retired ones will go crazy for it and come back taking sugar water.

“Carbonator” is part of the 2017 Hot Wheels series under the HW Holiday Racers sub-line numbered 5 of 5 with overall number in the mainline as 053 of 365 in the enitre series manufactured by Mattel, which was acquired in Australia, which retails for $2.00 AUD or PhP 80.00 Philippine pesos.

Hot Wheels is distributed and sold in the Philippines by Richprime Global Inc currently retailed at PhP 109.75 pesos!
