09.01.2017 – Fast & Furious 8 or now known as “Fate of the Furious” had introduced new characters that includes their villain, but the stars of the film are the new eye catching luxury cars that made this franchise popular.

There was one vehicle that’s not even a car and caught some of the fans attention. This was the Ripsaw which was driven by Ludacris in the film that also made into a diecast vehicle produced by Mattel for “The Fast and The Furious” toyline.

“The Fast and The Furious” toyline featured all the cars that appeared in the eight films since 2001, which includes one interesting vehicle that stood out that’s not even a car but the light tank vehicle known as the Ripsaw.

In the toyline that’s populated by the hottest cars from the films there’s only one vehicle that was produced into a diecast collectible that’s not even on four wheels. This was the Ripsaw a light tank vehicle that turned a lot of head when it was revealed in the films and if you thought this was made from special effects its actually a real military vehicle.

Ripping what you saw

“The Fast and The Furious” is a separate toyline from the Hot Wheels brand that was produced by Mattel. It’s a little larger from the main Hot Wheels diecast series, which also produced some of the Fast & Furious cars for the 2017 series. But the Ripsaw was entirely exclusive for “The Fast and The Furious” toyline.

Just like the Hot Wheels series the FF toyline is in blister packaging featuring Vin Diesel’s Dominic Teretto and his iconic Dodge Charger prominently as the artwork on the back card of the packaging. At the back there are not many details about the other products other than the app that you can download to film the toy cars.

Ludacris Tank Vehicle

This was not the first time the Ripsaw first appeared in cinema. The distinction can’t be blurred that it first appeared in “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” (2013) driven by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s Luke Hobbs, and it would be obviously redundant if he was the one driving it again. The producers of “Fate of the Furious” instead gave it to Chris ‘Ludacris’ Bridges character Tej Parker.

From the opening scene at the garage where all the luxury cars where parked this was the one that caught Tej Parker’s attention, which he immediately chose for the arctic mission with the team led by

Manned Armed Machine

The Ripsaw is for real as developed by Howe & Howe Technologies into an unmanned tank, which was their first project. The Howe Brothers developed it as a small family project in 2000. They introduced it in the 2001 Dallas Vehicle Show, which caught attention by the United States Army.

It’s intended to perform various missions including convoy protection, perimeter defense, surveillance, rescue, border patrol, crowd control, and explosive ordnance disposal. There have been several iterations of the Ripsaw as an unmanned vehicle for the military, but it is also a commercial vehicle developed by Howe & Howe Technologies minus the military aspect of the vehicle.

Tank on you Hands

Mattel produced the Ripsaw as part of “The Fast and The Furious” toyline as the only tank in the series of cars that appeared in the film. Just like in the “Fate of the Furious” its well detailed tank that you can see the driver’s cockpit. This includes the rotating machine gun turret that’s essential to its identity as a fast driving tank.

But the downside of this collectible the tank threads are plastic and has four wheels underneath. Though the details are great you won’t notice it, and aside from the tank thread being entirely plastic is the whole casting is not diecast for something this slightly expensive from the regular Hot Wheels car.

No Tanks but Thanks

Overall the Ripsaw was interesting in packaging how it looked detailed with the rotating turret and driver control, but failed with the quality Mattel has used for what used to be a diecast tank that was a little bit of a let down.

It was THE only tank in a bunch of cars in “The Fast and The Furious” series of diecast cars and it was a downer being not having any diecast parts that cost a lot more than a regular Hot Wheels car. But if you’re a tank enthusiast and want something different this might be the only one to get in the series.

“Ripsaw” is part of “The Fast and The Furious” series of diecast collectibles as part of F8 numbered 22 of 32 in the entire range that was originally priced at $7.00 AUD (PHP 280.00 pesos), which was on 20% off at Coles in Westfield Marion going for $5.60 AUD (PHP 224.00 pesos) until August 29, 2017.

"The Fast and The Furious" is distributed and sold in the Philippines by Richprime Global Inc. For more about the "The Fast and The Furious" brand and other Mattel related products LIKE Richwell Club on Facebook!
