From Comics to Movie
Long before the first issue of the comics was published the rights for the film version was already in development. Vaughn notes that, "We wrote the script and the comic at the same time so it was a very sort of collaborative, organic." Interesting enough it was accepted with good reception.
Most of the people who saw the film where not aware, that it was based on the comic book. That is currently being published by Marvel Comics' Icons imprint.
The last issue I saw on the shelves was its 8th issue. If you want to go deeper and try to read the comic book version. You can try looking for the compiled edition at a nearby comic book and specialty book shops that carries it.
Though I haven't read the comics the movie says it, that it definitely will kick some serious ass to become a sure hit blockbuster.
The Verdict
Overall the movie is not your Spider-Man or Iron Man for kids. Kick-Ass has received mostly positive reviews, although it generated some controversy for its profanity and violence, particularly from the character Hit-Girl.
I gave it a 9 out 10 popcorn bags for its action packed scene and violence. For a comic book geek this movie is for you.
