Sparks was approached to write both the film's screenplay and the novel. Sparks completed the screenplay in January 2009, prior to the completion of the novel, making The Last Song his first script to be optioned for film.

The setting, originally North Carolina like the novel, changed to Georgia after states campaigned for months to host production.

Upon beginning production in Tybee Island, Georgia and nearby Savannah, The Last Song became the first movie to be shot and set in Tybee Island. Filming lasted from June 15 to August 18, 2009 with much of it occurring on the island's beach and pier.

The Last Song was originally scheduled for wide release on January 8, 2010, but has since been postponed to March 31, 2010. It had a special media screening on May 6, 2010 and it will be shown in the Philippines on May 12, 2010.

Interesting Insights...

Never fond of coming to age romance or had read the novel. Miley Cyrus has matured as an actress, though I haven't seen her previous teen movies she has takes this acting gig to the next level.

Greg Kinnear is fun to watch in these kind of movies. The last movie I saw him was Mystery Men and that was almost 11 years. I only knew tht he grew out of his talk show back in the day. His chemistry with child actor Bobby Coleman as father and son. From light comedy scenes to the heavy parts of the film it struck a cord or two to the viewers.

Mosty notably this is a romance movie, but the best parts of the movie was the scenes where Greg (Kinnear) and Bobby (Coleman) as my favorite.

Some of the scenes as well as camera shots are great that played in the story. Not to break out and explain but you just had to appreciate the movie aside from the story itself.

The Verdict

Overall it made me laugh and some had cried. Its a good date movie and it definitely a film for Miley Cyrus fans. Its rare I get the opportunity to see these kind of movies, which I highly suggest to girls who likes to watch romantic flicks. This movie makes the grade 7/10.
